DNA what is it?

  • HIP, HIP HORRAY!!! FOR DNA!! IT PROVI....... Oh hey guys I was just singing a a really catchy song that our teacher Mr.Sellers shows us every once and a while. Well by the song in BIG LETTERS you probably can see what I'm going to teach you. You guessed it unicorns like Charlie!!! Just kidding!!!!! I'm going to teach you about Deoxyribonucleic Acid!! Pretty complicated word I know, but for you you people who like the easy way out than just call it DNA!!!!

  • Cool picture right?

Q: What did the DNA say to the other DNA?
A: Do these genes make my butt look fat.

Okay so to start off, you might be asking what is DNA. I cant give it to you in a simple way because DNA is not simple it is actually kinda complicated, but I'll try my best. DNA is the blue print of your entire human self. DNA is a double helix which looks like a when a giant twists a ladder (if you have ever seen one).
DNA is made up of chromosomes, which are made up of genes (hints the joke above *hahahahaha* not funny) .Every person with no mutation has 46 total or 23 pair of chromosomes, 23 from your birth mom, and 23 from your birth dad. but if you have a mutation like an extra toe or something, than you have more than 46 chromosomes in a nucleus.

Okay so as some of you may know DNA wasn't always known of, unlike Charlie!!!! Who did find DNA? you know what that's something i don't know either. so hold on i'll look it up on google, so i'll be right back.
    Kay?..................................................................................................................................

    A Short Time L8r.........

Okay so I found out who discovered DNA. It was Frederick Miescher a swiss scientist. But two guys named James Watson and Francis Crick ( Watson and Crick). Watson and Crick had been working on the structure of DNA about 100 years after Miescher had discovered DNA. Rosalind Franklin was a British biophysicist and a x-ray crystallographer who made discoveries about the

molecular structures of DNA,RNA,viruses, coal, and graphite. All of them were awarded The Nobel Peace prize for doing all they did to make DNA what we know of it today.

I forgot to tell you something that i think might be pretty important................That DNA is in the shape of a double helix or a double spiral. RNA is only a single spiral.

If you don't know what RNA is, then you are in the right place because im going to tell you. RNA is Ribonucleic acid, like DNA is DEOXYribonucleic acid.
RNA is a type of acid that carries the code for making proteins. RNA and DNA have two major differences, DNA i a double helix and RNA is a single helix, and also that in RNA thymine switches out of uracil.

There are two more things i wanted to add. One is the nucleotides and their four bases.
Nucelotides a molecule made of a nitrogen base,a sugar, and a phosphate group.
There are four bases, adenine(a), cytosine (c),thymine (t), and guanine (g).

The last thing is the way DNA replicates. All cells contain DNA in chromosomes. Then in interphase the chromosomes are copied therefore copying the DNA to make it identicle in your cells.

Mary McLeod Bethune like and learn about the atlanta history cebnter

Imagine that you were a slave of a man or woman. You had to plant, grow, pick, and harvest the things you were growing. The family you work for has a daughter you watch her sit on the desk by the window, holding this thing that you have never picked  up in your lifetime. A pencil,  she writes while her mother teaches her English. You say to yourself "I wish I could do that" Some black kids didn't have the privilege to go to school to learn how to read and write. You pray every nite that someone, somebody will come and make that happen. then in 1875 Mary McLeod Bethune was born.

    field-negro.blogspot.com

Mary McLeod Bethune was a woman who created schools for black students. Mary was born in 1875 in Mayesville, South Carolina. She was the fisrt born of her family and was not a slave. She was not a slave because of the Emancipation Proclamation which was created in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln. It freed 60,000 slaves and 1/3 of the rest of the slaves were apart of the union army. Mary attended Maysville Presbyterian Mission School, Scotia Seminary and the Moody Bible Institute when she was a child and teenager. After she graduated  from Scotia Seminary in 1894 she began to teach at Maysville Presbyterian in 1895. Two years later she married Albertus Bethune and had their first child a year later.

In 1904 Mary founded the Daytona Educational and Industrial School for black girls. She served as president of the schools from 1904 to 1942 and then from 1946 to 1947. She was a leader of the black woman's club movement, a president of the National Association of Colored women, and a delegate and advisor to the national conferences on education, child welfare, and home ownership She was awarded the Springarn medal in 1935 and that was her first medal.

Mary McLeod Bethune spent most of her life making sure that kids got the education they need to be as smart as everyone else who called them stupid. Sadly she died in 1955 at the age of 80. She died a hero, letting black kids learn, read, and write so that they could become bigger and better so that they can not only be a slave but the next hero to the world.

I believe that Mary B. was the person that let us have black friends, and why Obama is president. She gave the kids with no hope left the chance to be what the really are. A superstar, a professor, A PRESIDENT!!!!!

On Monday we went to the Atlanta history center. We learned about what it would have been like to be a soldier in the civil war. We got to interact with the material that was there, play pretend, and make life or death choices. The man that was our tour guide Marvin was very nice and interacted with us. He made it seem real like when the "bombs" went off. We got to go into this room "a bomb shelter" and we discussed how a bomb shelter might have been, how to make one, and what you did in one.

Hey guys I was just watching a vein throb on my arm. Did you know that in that vein is blood. That blood is made from cells. A lot of cells, but it never used to be that way. When we we were being devloped inside of our moms we were and still are growing. We were growing because cells were dividing to make more and more of itself so we could have a layer of skin, and hair on our heads and so on. How do we do that? What is that called? All of those types of questions I will be answering. And I will be talking about more than just that, like interphase, cytokinesis and mitosis, the two main phases of the cell cycle, and why the result of the cell cycle is so important. The process that allows the cell to divide is called mitosis. Mitosis has four phases but sometimes five. They are...........

    • prophase: when the chromosomes suddenly appear after the one cell is formed
    • prometaphase (sometimes): when the cell membrane disolves and the mitubrials go to the center of the chromosome (kineticore)
    • metaphase : when the chromosomes line up and wait
    • anaphase: when the chromosomes are pulled apart
    • telophase:the separated chromosomes arive at each end of the cell. Then a new cell membrane forms around each group going through the cycle again.

In interphase it is preparing the cell for division. Interphase is NOT a phase of mitosis. It's like when
you bake muffins you need to prepare to do it like getting out the pan, preheating the oven, etc....
Animal cell drawing: interphaseInterphase is the longest part of the cell cycle. During interphase the DNA and the organelles replacate, and the cell increases in size. Also everything doubles during the process of interphase.

Cells go through two main phases. The first phase is called interphase (as explaned above)the cell grows, replicates everything inside it and produces proteins. In the second phase, known as mitosis, the cell divides in two identical daughter cells. Daughter cells are the cells produced after the orignal cell divides. It's like making a copy of a picture, you have the orignal then you make copies of it. Those copies would be consiered as the daughter cells.

The next thing to cover is the diffrence between mitosis and cytokinesis. Mitosis and cytokinesis are a part of cell division. Mitosis is when the duplicated part of the cell is separated into halves that are always identical . Cytokinesis is the process when the cytoplasm of the cell divides to form two daughter cells.

The last thing to tell you is why the result of the cell cycle is so important. At the end of the cell cycle the cell has sucessfully divided. It is important because when a cell dies we need a new cell to replace it. If we didn't have the result of it then we would run out of cells and eventually die.

I hope that this here blog helped you study for a test or helped answer your questions. Thanks for reading!!!

    2012, oh joy:(:)

Hey 2012 is fianally here, the year of armageddon or as others call it doomsday. I can't wait untill the earth starts to earthquake or do something that will cause us all to die.A few might live, but hey its a brand new year, a clean slate, and one year less untill we can drive.

FUN FACTS ON : NEW YEARS
So on new years there are some traditions when the clock strikes midnight, like kissing someone, watching the ball drop in New York with host Dick Clark, watching football, eating round fruits, wearing polka dotted clothes, breaking dishes, eating black eyed peas, sleep through it, or just simply do nothing. The deffinition of new years is the beginning of a new calender year, and making resolutions to improve themselves in the new year.Speaking of, i have a few resolutions of my own  for the rest of the school year.here is a list.

    • to stop talking so much (I talk A LOT)
    • to become a better blogger
    • and to learn an take notes as much as I can
So on to our awesome 2 week break. Well mine started out cool then during the first week my aunt was in a bad mood so I think you know how that went. Then on Thursday night we got into the car with my aunt, my uncle, my uncles friend Medley, and me to go to BrandsMart USA which is like a trigged out Bestbuy to meet my grandma so that we could go our separate ways and do some CHRISTMAS SHOPPIN. At the last minute (of course). So while they were at  BrandsMart USA we went to the mall to by my uncle this AMAZING auburn tiger hat (if I do say so myself). Then we went to Target to one get this really amazing necklace(for me), then a lunch box for medley, a gift card for my uncle Stephen, and a bracelet for my aunt. Then when we got home we had to wrap and wrap and wrap some more. Since we didn't have bows  hand made them. Then on the next day we went  for another round of Christmas shopping but it was for my family in Ohio.Early next morning we went back to my aunts to set up for Chrimma(as medley would say it)eve. for Christmas eve dinner we had a roast, mash potatoes, rolls, and my favorite HONEY BAKED HAM!!!!! after that we went to bed but I stayed up till like, fourish (not believing in Santa)but I was just so hiked up on caffeine and sugar. It was exactly 9:15 am and 27 seconds when I woke up to go jump on peoples heads to wake them up. We went out and I was the present distributor.I got a whole lot of art stuff, an easel, a eyelash curler ( I never new what that was for), makeup remover,a Nikon camera, and a dell inspiron core 3 laptop. After present time we had breakfast/lunch we had maple bacon, rolls, sausage, pancakers, and juices. Then we had a phenomenal Christmas dinner with ribs, rolls, broccoli, peas, corn, and more honey baked ham.
after dinner we went home, then at 4am we got up and packed our stuff to get into the car so we could start our 10 hour trip to Ohio. We stopped at McDonald's to get a bite to eat.the kept driving untill at some point in Tennessee to rest(my grandma was so tired) then finally after getting lost several times we arrived at 5:19 pm. we had a second Christmas dinner in Ohio, and i opened my presents and i got an IPOD and a printer for my camera. it was sad leaving, i will always see them next year.

I'm really looking forward to my 13th b-day, and the next Christmas.hip-hip boobay!!!!

i would have added more pics but my laptop is at my grandmas friends house. sorry

    ADDICTION

    Addiction

Hey y'all, i was just talking to my parents about quitting their addiction to smoking. What is and addiction you ask an addiction is something that the person has no control to what they are doing, taking, or using. Their addiction can and may reach the point to where it can really hurt them or even cause death. Addiction can also be defined as a dependence on an object such as ( internet, food, eating, gambling, video games, heroin, alcohol, work, exercise, and other drugs.

    Drug and Acholol

There are many more types of addiction such as drug and alcohol addictions, there are also some pretty weird ones like bleach, dryer sheets, ashes(human), teddy bears, and just other ordinary everyday things. Usually drug and alcohol addictions have something to do with their childhood and how they were treated. Let's say for example that a child(about four to ten) has a drug or alcohol addict parent or parents. The child, because this is all the child knows will begin to think that this is normal for their parent to do. But once he/she gets older they have a better chance of becoming and addict themselves because that is what they grew up with. But sometimes addictions can also be psychological. When and if the child was either beaten or abused in any kind of way (it is usually mentally) the child can sometimes carry that with them into their adulthood and because of that then they turn to things that they think can help them (or make them feel good) to make the badness go away.

    Compulsive and OCD

Compulsive addictions are like gambling, shopping, eating, hoarding, and computers. It means that even though you don't have the resources you continue to do it. Alcohol and drug addictions are somewhat different because most of the time it is a need to feel a certain way and to (travel) away from your problems. But in compulsive you do it compulsively. OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder. but it doesn't just mean a germaphobe it can also mean washing and cleaning, checking, repeating, counting, ordering and arranging, mental rituals, hoarding, and collecting.

This picture is of a man with OCD.he has to check everything.

    Addictions Effect on The Brain

When alcohol or drug etc. enters the brain, it is absorbed through mouth, nose, shot  etc. Drugs entering act on the brain like the body's natural chemicals (such as endorphins and dopamine) that are involved in producing the sensation of pleasure. When the body getting the substances from the outside , the brain produces much less of its own and begins to rely on the outside source. As the brain adapts to the drugs presence, the person using the drug builds tolerance and must keep using more and more  to produce the feeling . However most addicts say that they never got that feeling of pleasure . Then begins the cycle of using more and more drugs to get an even worse feeling witch "doesn't make you even feel normal anymore."If the drug is stopped  immediately, it usually triggers a withdrawal syndrome. Symptoms may and may not occur depending on the thing used and the how long you used it for , but common symptoms may include anxiety, irritability, chills and hot flashes, nausea, cramps and even death. As a person goes through withdrawal, the body "begs" for more of the addictive drug in order to escape withdrawal.

    Smoking

I just recently found out why my parents have a hard time not smoking a cigarette. The cigarette has a substance in the top part called tobacco. The substance in tobacco that makes addiction is called nicotine. Nicotine is a stimulant that causes people to feel good or energized for a while. If you are depressed, it can provide a short boost. It also causes the release of natural chemicals in our brain called beta-endorphins. These chemicals cause us to feel more alert and calm. The problem is that nicotine isn't stored in the body so these effects last only a few minutes. We need to absorb more and more nicotine to make the effects last. If people who smoke inhale nicotine long enough, our brains may lower our natural energy level or mood. So, instead of wanting to feel high, people smoke just to feel "normal"as smokers will say . When some people go without tobacco for more than a few hours they may experience retreat symptoms like lack of energy, slight depression, and a hard time concentrating. They smoke to stop feeling this way. But when you quit forever, retreat symptoms will go away within a few days.
